More “How Do I?” Questions

How do I get my dog to stop pulling on the leash?

Dogs pull on the leash because it works – it gets them where they want to go. The more pressure you exert on the leash, the harder they will pull in the opposite direction (oppositional reflex).

Walking nicely on a leash is a skill that takes time and practice for both the owner and the dog and we must first adjust our attitude. Instead of trying to teach your dog to stop pulling, think of it as teaching your dog how to walk nicely beside you and reward that behavior.
